Updates!!!

So there are alot of updates I am doing today.. sorry for the overload... This blog was mainly dedicated to my love for scrapbooking... well now I will be adding and updating about all kinds of crafts and my life... etc!!!! Stay tuned to see what all you can learn!!! :)

Dishwasher Detergent

Most of you have read that I am now making my own laundry detergent... well needless to say when you make it you do not use hardly any of your ingedients..... you have alot left!!! So I started making my own laundry detergent and I can not tell a difference between this and the cascade that I used for years!!!!!

Recipe

1 Cup Arm & Hammer Super washing Soda

1 Cup Borax

Put it in a container and mix it up... use 2 TBS per load!

*** I haven't tried the homemade Rinse aid (Jetdry) but I am sure I will!!!! :)

Fabric Softner

So I have changed alot of things the last few days concerning my laundry! USED TO .. I would use Tide or Gain Laundry detergent, fabric softner and also dryer sheets. OUr water where we live has a , no so pleasant smell.. and I would try to "cover it" I guess you can say! ... well since I have changed I can not smell anything from our water.. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still buy my stuggle fabric softner because I love it's smell... but I changed the way I use it! I bought a 24 oz spray bottle

Added 8 oz of fabric softner (of your choice) and 16 oz of water... (be sure to shake it up after you add to bottle)

So how do I use it you may ask!!!! If I am in a big hurry I will put my clothes in the dryer then spray a few sprays into the dryer on the clothes....... but most of the time, while I am taking them out of the washer, I will spray each item a couple times while putting clothes into dryer!!!!! After years of using this the way I did.. I can not tell a difference and it saves SOOOO much fabric softner!!!! :)

Homemade Laundry Detergent

So... some of you have been asking me about how I made my homemade laundry detergent.. so here it goes!

Here are the 3 items that I purchased and used! (I could only find the borax at walmart... but my pricecutter had all of them)

Recipe (This recipe makes 2 gallons)

1/3 bar of Fels-Naptha
1/2 Cup of Super Washing Soda
1/2 Cup of Borax

Grate you soap and put it in pan (I used a large pot) and add 6 cups of water and mix until soap is melted. Once the soap is melted add the Washing Soda and Borax and mix until disolved. Remove from heat. Now add 4 cups of Hot water into your bucket you are using to store the soap (I used a 5 gallon bucket with lid). Now add you soap mixer into bucket and stir. Add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir. Let the soap sit for 24 hours and it will gel. Use 1/2 cup per load.

A few things
- This soap is a low sudsing soap... but it's ok... that is not what cleans your clothes, it's the ingredients!
- If you would like a type of scent you can add about 15 drops of essential oil to mix. (I did not do this.... I love the "clean" smell it already gives
-It is not hard to make, so don't make it hard! :)
- When broken down it adverages out to about.... .71 cents per 64 loads!
- I am very picky when it comes to the cleanness of my clothes, and I will have to say I am very pleased with the results! Took the grass stains right out of my husbands clothes without pretreating or anything!!!

****Some wantt an EXTRA boost with their whites or what not.... if you are looking for something to add... try this!! It's the generic for OxyClean (I haven't added this to any of my loads yet)

Here is the finished product!!!

Some have asked if it's a nasty looking result... So it's just like any other laundry detergent! Once it has set for 24 hours you need to stir it up... and I stir it every time I used it! I will be making a double batch next time... but I wanted to just make a single one to try first!
